Meals On Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties Receives Walmart Foundation Grant

Meals On Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties has been awarded a $3000 grant from the Walmart Foundation for our participation in the "We Are Meals On Wheels" public awareness campaign last fall.

"We Are Meals On Wheels" is the national slogan developed by the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), headquartered in Alexandria, Va. The marketing campaign and a variety of resources for member agencies were introduced at last year's MOWAA conference in Chicago.

Locally, we promoted the campaign via our social media pages, distribution of volunteer recruitment fliers, and airing of television promos on Canton City Schools Television and the City of Canton Televsion, both on Time Warner Cable in Canton.

"Your program has proven that it is a leader in this national campaign," said Enid Borden, MOWAA president and CEO. "Only with sustained awareness-building efforts will we be able to end senior hunger in America by 2020."

Our New Box Truck Has Arrived

Our new 12-foot box truck has arrived and is being prepared for our delivery needs. It is pictured here before any logos or graphics have been applied to the side panels.

The truck was made possible in part by a generous grant from the Walmart Foundation, along with additional funding from our neighbors at the J.M. Smucker Company of Orrville.

We're excited about the arrival of the truck and look forward to putting it into service soon.

Walmart Foundation Grant to Help With New Truck Purchase

The Meals On Wheels Association, in conjunction with the Walmart Foundation, has selected Meals On Wheels of Stark & Wayne Counties as one of 147 nationwide recipients of a Walmart Foundation Impact Grant.

The grants will provide Meals On Wheels programs with essential items such as stoves, refrigerators, freezers, delivery vehicles, and other equipment so they can continue providing meals to homebound seniors and other seniors in need.

Locally, we were awarded $15,000, the maximum amount available under the program, toward the purchase of a new delivery truck. We welcome additional donations from corporations and individuals, as the balance of the purchase is about $30,000.

We appreciate the support of the Walmart Foundation and the Meals On Wheels Association of America toward our mission of helping our homebound neighbors live independent lives through proper nutrition.
